23.4 Billion Battery Project Implemented
On October 11, Stellantis and Samsung SDI jointly announced that the two parties will establish a second electric vehicle battery factory in Kokomo, Indiana, USA.
The plant will still be operated by StarPlus Energy, a joint venture between the two parties, with an annual production capacity of 34GWh. Production will begin in early 2027, with a total investment of more than 3.2 billion US dollars (approximately 23.4 billion yuan).
In May last year, the two parties announced that they would establish the first battery manufacturing factory in Kokomo. The plant has already started construction and is scheduled to be put into production in the first quarter of 2025, with an annual production capacity of 33GWh.
At this point, the two battery factories planned to be cooperated by Stellantis and Samsung SDI have been officially launched. The annual production capacity of the two factories will reach 67GWh, and the total investment will exceed US$6.3 billion.
According to the plan, Stellantis promises to build six battery super factories around the world, mainly concentrated in the United States and Europe. With the launch of the second factory in cooperation with Samsung SDI, Stellantis’ six battery super factories are also planned.
