Global Power Battery Vehicle Installation Volume Surged 44% from January to October

Overseas consulting organization SNE Research released the latest statistical results of global power battery installations on December 6. From January to October this year, global electric vehicle battery usage reached 552.2GWh, an increase of 44.0% year-on-year. Among the top 10 rankings, Chinese brands occupy 6 seats.

In the data released by SNE Research, among the top 10 brands in terms of installed vehicle volume, in addition to China's CATL, BYD, CALB, Guoxuan, EVE and Sunwoda, the remaining 4 seats are from South Korea's LG Energy, SK On, Samsung SDI, and Japan's Panasonic.

Among them, the three Korean companies have a combined market share of 23.4%, a year-on-year decrease of 1.1 percentage points, but they all maintain an upward trend in battery usage. For example, Samsung SDI has maintained its upward trend by relying on the growth of BMW and Audi-related sales. In addition, SK On, which supplies Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Ford, also experienced growth. In contrast, LG Energy has the largest growth rate among Korean brands, which is mainly due to the hot sales of Tesla Model 3/Y and Volkswagen ID. series.

Panasonic is the only Japanese company to enter the top 10. Its installed vehicle volume increased by 30.8% year-on-year, and its global market share was 6.8%. As one of Tesla’s main battery suppliers, most of its batteries are installed in Tesla models in the North American market.

Among Chinese brands, CATL’s “far leading” position can no longer be shaken. Its vehicle loading volume from January to October reached 203.8GWh, a year-on-year increase of 51.1%，this data is not only close to the sum of the 2nd to 6th places on the list, but also allows CATL to occupy more than 36% of the global market.

Currently, CATL has achieved nearly doubled growth in all continental markets except China. In addition to a variety of hot-selling models that cater to the Chinese market, we also supply overseas brands including BMW and Mercedes-Benz. According to SNE Research, CATL will continue to maintain high growth for a long time due to its batteries being widely used in a variety of vehicle models.
